The finalists of the World Kitchen Design Contest have been announced and Lincoln company Chiselwood are the only UK kitchen company to reach the prestigious finals run by Sub-Zero and Wolf, the kitchen industry leaders in premium refrigeration, wine preservation and cooking equipment.
Chiselwood’s entry “The Rectory” was designed by Founder and Design Director, Martin Holliday, for the owners of an early Victorian listed Rectory. They had decided to replace the glass roof and one wall of an existing conservatory with solid structures and move a new kitchen into the space they created. The room is still full of natural light but much more comfortable with lots of space for socialising and beautiful views of the garden. The owners also converted an adjacent gym into a scullery. The judges were looking for things like good quality of light, good circulation of space and a balance of materials and layout in terms of work stations.
Chiselwood MD, Mel Holliday, was responsible for submitting the entry and commented, "receiving recognition from an iconic brand such as Sub Zero/Wolf that
enjoys a strong relationship with the design community is an outstanding achievement for the entire team here at Chiselwood. The fact that Martin’s design has been chosen from 1,500 entries from throughout the world is the most amazing accolade for Martin as a designer and for us as a relatively small, British designer and manufacturer, we are immensely proud,” she added.
Chiselwood will now receive a trip for two to attend the Winners' Summit and Gala, held from September 24 to 27 at Hotel del Coronado located on Coronado Island just outside San Diego, California. The contest's 10 Global winners will be announced at the gala on Monday, September 25, in the following categories: first place contemporary, transitional and traditional; second place contemporary, transitional and traditional; first-time entry; small spaces kitchen; outdoor kitchen.
